What’s been happening:

After receiving my Ph.D. in Geology at Penn State in 1975 I moved to Golden, Colorado to work for the US Geological Survey as a Research Scientist. Prior to taking an early retirement in 1997 I published over 160 papers and abstracts on the subjects of economic geology, volcanology, mineralogy, and geochemistry. From 1997 until 2002 I ran my own consulting company focusing on mineral exploration field evaluation, geochemistry, mineralogy, and reflected/transmitted light petrography. In 2002 I took a job with the International Atomic Energy Commission (United Nations) to work in Vienna, Austria as a senior uranium specialist with diplomatic status. My work included travel to uranium deposit, mine and reclamation sites in Romania, Egypt, Pakistan, Argentina, and China. In 2005 I was a joint recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize with other staff members at the IAEA. By 2005 the uranium price had gone from $6 to $40/pound and I returned to Colorado to consult in the uranium industry, so I could once again see the sunshine on a daily basis compared to biannually in Vienna. Much of my consulting work has been in Tucson, Arizona where I bought a small ranch. My Ph.D field mapping was at the top of Humphrey's Peak (12,000') so Arizona was a familiar home to me. I return to my home in Golden, Colorado for the summers and the Christmas holidays.
